Views from our Kit Home site in Lewiston, Trinity County
All of the photos on this page were taken from the building site where we built our first kit home in Lewiston. I added just a little background information about the town of Lewiston and about Trinity County for anyone who's curious... follow the links for more information.
Trinity County is located in Northern California and encompasses a large portion of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and is home of the Trinity Alps (pictured above).
Trinity County has many recreational opportunities in the outdoors, with the Trinity River, Lewiston Lake, Trinity Lake and several smaller mountain lakes and streams. Our population is pretty low (13,671 in 2004) so there's a lot of open space to get away from it all, and tourism is a fair part of the local economy.
This is an absolutely wonderful place to raise children and also attracts quite a few retirees and people who want a second home to get away. If you're curious about our local real estate market, check out
Trinity County Realty 's
website. Cheryl Mikkola is the owner and she and her staff of dedicated agents have made this the best real estate office in the county.
Loren is the local fishery biologist for the USDA Forest Service and an avid fisherman. Check out his
fishing site
for some ideas of where to go angling.
Among the oldest counties in the state,
Trinity County
was created in 1850 when California achieved statehood. The county was mistakenly named 'Trinity' because it was believed at the time that it emptied into Trinidad Bay. Weaverville, the county seat and the largest town in the county, was created at the same time and currently has a population of about 3,500 people.
Lewiston is one of the three largest towns in Trinity County, with a crowded population of 1,305 people as of the 2000 census. (It's okay to laugh when you read that).
This black oak tree (I call it the 'Kissing Tree' because it's full of mistletoe) sits right next to our kit home and faces toward the historic district of Lewiston, which features the
Old Lewiston School House,
the Lewiston Hotel, and a historic one lane bridge.
We actually have a pretty nice view of the old bridge from our kit home since we cut some trees down to open it up. There are no traffic lights in Trinity County, but people are surprisingly courteous when it comes to crossing the bridge on a first come first serve basis. On the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend every year they light up the bridge and have a firework display that rivals Weaverville's 4th of July event.
