Dig Footings for the Kit Home Foundation
|
A surveyor is sometimes enlisted (check your local codes to see if one is required) to locate the exact corners of the house, then batter boards are set up to mark the corners. The batter boards are checked to be sure they are square, and then the foundation can be marked chalk or paint.

After the corners are marked, excavation begins. The footings must be dug according to the depth on your approved building plans.
The foundation footings must rest on undisturbed soil, so don't backfill if they are dug too deep. Here our backhoe operator was assisted by a hand crew for clean trenches. |
