Home Theater SystemsFor new construction, installing a home theater system is a very reasonable project for the owner builder. Since the walls of your house are still open, you can run all your wire inside the walls where they will be hidden, and you can even paint the grills of your speakers so they will blend into the wall. In our new house (our second kit home), we are installing a 6.1 home theater speaker system, which uses six speakers and a sub-woofer. The configuration of our living room is not absulutely perfect for speaker location, but it should still be a great addition to our new kit home! Loren and I wanted to have the majority of our audio and video equipment hidden from view, so we will have a "head end" in our home theater (living room) that will be hidden under the stairs. All of the satellite receivers, whole house and home theater amplifiers will be hidden, but the DVD player, CD player, and PS2 will be located in a built-in entertainment center so we will have easy access to them. A Terrific Deal from DirecTV!In the process of planning my wiring for all of my audio and video cable, I learned that DirecTV will actually come out and do the rough in wiring for our satellite TV for free! It's only a savings of $60-100 on coax, but any time I can get someone to provide free labor I'm all for it. I will be installing my audio and video wire in the next week or so, and since DirecTV is sending an installer on Friday, that's one less thing for me to worry about.I was fully prepared to pay for the satellite service for the 2 or 3 months left in construction, but found out that I won't even have to pay that...
